A Jaguar fighter aircraft crashed in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, killing pilot Siddhart Pandey and an 18-year-old girl who was working on the fields. The incident occurred at 12.30 p.m. The aircraft had taken off from the Gorakhpur airbase.
A senior police officer here said the plane first hit an overhead high voltage electricity cable and then a tree before crashing on the ground.
Inspector-General (Crime) G. P. Sharma told reporters that the wreckage of the aircraft was strewn over one square kilometre area. The crash was reported from Firozpur Dhilai village under the Madhuvan police station.
